Gold Coast Elopement & Micro Wedding Locations: Where Can You Say 'I Do'?

There’s something magic about the Gold Coast, isn’t there? There’s the salty breeze off the ocean, the soft rustle of gum trees in the hinterland, the golden late-afternoon light and the feeling that, for a little while, the rest of the world has slowed down. It’s a pretty special place to get married. As a Gold Coast Marriage Celebrant and MC, I’m lucky enough to conduct ceremonies all across this beautiful region. And one of the questions I’m asked most often is:
“Where could we actually get married?” The answer is: probably in more places than you think.
A Gold Coast elopement or micro wedding doesn't have to mean sand between your toes. You could exchange vows beside the ocean, beneath a fig tree, in a garden, in a chapel, on a rooftop, at a private property or somewhere in the hinterland surrounded by greenery. There is no right location. It’s the one that feels like you. So, rather than giving you a list of “the best” Gold Coast wedding venues, here’s my guide to some of the different types of locations worth considering, along with a little of the local knowledge I've picked up from conducting ceremonies across the region.
Choosing Your Gold Coast Elopement or Micro Wedding Location
Before you fall in love with a photograph on Pinterest or Instagram, think about the experience you want. Would you like to:
feel completely surrounded by nature?
have the ocean as your backdrop?
keep things private and peaceful?
have somewhere nearby for lunch or dinner afterwards?
make things easy for older guests or little ones?
have somewhere air-conditioned in the warmer months?
combine your ceremony and celebration in one place?
have beautiful photographs without travelling between several locations?
Your guest list matters too. A location that works beautifully for two people and two witnesses may not be the best choice for 20 or 30 guests. Think about parking, toilets, shade, seating, accessibility, sound and what happens if the weather changes. And don't underestimate the value of convenience.
For an intimate wedding, you don't need a traditional wedding venue. Sometimes a beautiful location followed by dinner somewhere you love is it. So before you start shopping for venues or locations consider here are some thought starters...
Gold Coast Beach Elopements & Micro Weddings
Of course, we have to start with the beach. From Coolangatta and Kirra to Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach, Broadbeach and Main Beach, the Gold Coast coastline gives you an incredible range of settings for an intimate ceremony. Froggies Beach, Burleigh Headland, Main Beach and Miami's Rainbow Stairs all offer something quite different, from sheltered and intimate to colourful and playful. But there is more to planning a beach ceremony than finding a beautiful patch of sand. Parking, access, crowds, wind, timing, permits and styling all need to be considered.

Garden & Park Weddings on the Gold Coast
If sand isn't your thing, gardens and parks can give you the beauty of being outdoors with a little more structure underfoot. Gold Coast parks require a paid park permit and there are some areas that prohibit weddings. The permits also carry specific requirements around number of guests, structures and time limits all of which I can support you with.
Cascade Gardens, Broadbeach
Cascade Gardens is a lovely option for couples who want greenery, winding paths and a relaxed riverside setting while still being close to the heart of the Gold Coast. It works particularly well for smaller ceremonies because there are different areas to explore rather than one obvious “wedding spot”. It is also one of the few parks that has a photogenic undercover option with the rotunda in the middle of the park. But be aware, this can't be booked exclusively so along with a paid permit you need to have logistics in place to 'secure' the site in time for your ceremony. There is time limited parking spaces all around the park making it convenient and easy to access.
Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens, Benowa
The Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens in Benowa is another beautiful option, particularly for couples who love gardens and want something that feels a little removed from the busyness of the coast. With mature trees, water and plenty of natural beauty, it can create a lovely backdrop for an intimate ceremony and photographs afterwards. There are a variety of spaces for the ceremony, depending on your preference for backdrop and even garden type. Parking is abundant but very limited during peak times including weekends and school holidays.
Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens
If you want to feel as though you've escaped the Gold Coast altogether, head into the hinterland.
Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens has a completely different atmosphere from the coastline. The air is cooler; this is the space for forested surroundings and beautiful gardens to create a romantic setting for couples who want their ceremony to feel like a little getaway. With a number of photogenic bridges and a charming Balinese Hut there are a lot of choices for your ceremony location. It can be particularly lovely for an elopement where the location itself becomes part of the experience with a pop-up picnic. But be aware, while there is currently no permit required you also can not reserve any spaces. It is strictly first come first served and it gets very busy on weekends and during school holidays. Parking on site is limited.
Gold Coast Hinterland Elopements
One of the great things about the Gold Coast is how quickly the landscape changes.
You can be beside the ocean and, after a short drive be surrounded by rainforest, rolling hills and greenery. For couples who want a more private or natural feeling, the hinterland is well worth considering.
The area around Mudgeeraba, Tallebudgera Valley, Currumbin Valley and Tamborine Mountain offers a very different backdrop to the coastline. You might choose a private property, garden setting or dedicated venue, depending on your guest numbers and the kind of celebration you're planning. The hinterland can also work particularly well if you want to combine your ceremony with a relaxed lunch, dinner or weekend away. Just remember some locations involve narrow roads, uneven ground or a little more travel, so think about your guests as well as the photographs.
Chapel & Indoor Ceremony Locations
Sometimes the perfect Gold Coast wedding location has four walls and air conditioning.
And honestly, in the middle of a Queensland summer, that can be a very appealing thought.
A chapel or indoor ceremony can give you a sense of occasion while also providing shelter from heat, rain and wind.
Broadwater Chapel
Broadwater Chapel offers a light-filled, intimate setting beside the Broadwater and works beautifully for couples wanting something traditional in feel without a large-scale wedding. It is airconditioned and offers beautiful photography vantage point from the front verandah.
Crowne Plaza Chapel, Broadbeach
The chapel at Crowne Plaza Broadbeach offers an elegant indoor option, with the added benefit of air conditioning, and being walking distance to the beach; something worth remembering when you're planning a summer wedding.
Sanctuary Cove Chapel
Sanctuary Cove Chapel has a classic feel with its white steeple and waterfront setting. It can suit couples looking for something timeless and intimate with the best views from inside the chapel itself.
St Margaret’s at HOTA
St Margaret’s at HOTA is a particularly distinctive option, combining a chapel setting with the surrounding HOTA precinct and parkland. It offers plenty of possibilities for photographs before or after the ceremony and gives couples something a little more akin to a traditional church setting with the chapel dating back to the 1930's, now updated to include air conditioning and a park setting dotted with sculptures.
Rooftops, Restaurants & Somewhere a Little Different
If you would rather exchange vows somewhere with a cocktail in your hand and dinner waiting afterwards, there are Gold Coast venues where the ceremony and celebration can flow naturally into one another.
The Collective at Palm Beach is one example of the more relaxed, social style of celebration that can work beautifully for a small wedding. Greendays in Bundall offers another option for couples who want somewhere with relaxed personality rather than a conventional wedding venue feel. Alternatively, a Surf Club like Vikings at Currumbin or Miami Beach Surf Club offer private hire event space with the option to walk across the street to the beach for photos or even your ceremony.
These kinds of locations can be particularly appealing if you want your wedding day to feel more like a really good day out together rather than a formal event. And for an elopement or micro wedding, that can be exactly the point.
Private Gardens & Rural-Style Settings
If privacy is important to you, a private property or dedicated garden venue can offer something that public spaces can't. Evergreen Garden Venue is one example, with its gardens and romantic, European-inspired atmosphere.
If the thought of coordinating several different locations makes you tired just reading about it, an all-in-one venue may be the better choice. Parkwood Village, for example, offers the convenience of having your ceremony and celebration in one place, with a private, purpose-built ceremony garden space and reception facilities as well as access to the lush golf course for photos. Other options include Cowbell Creek, in the Gold Coast Hinterland at the back of Mudgeeraba, offers a relaxed, polished rural setting, with a modern barn inspired ceremony space plus wildlife and animals you won't easily find elsewhere. Or Gold Coast Farmhouse in the Numinbah Valley offers multiple ceremony and reception spaces depending on your guest list size. Another venue to consider is Tall Trees, nestled in the Tallebudgera Valley an effortlessly elegant rural location combining ceremony spaces flanked by forest with rustic facilities (think boogie barn) and onsite accommodation for effortless arrangements.
These types of venues can work particularly well for couples who want:
more privacy
somewhere to spend several hours, or even the whole day, rather than just the ceremony
space for a small to medium-size guest group
an outdoor ceremony with an indoor backup option
ceremony and celebration in one location
For a micro wedding, having everything close together can make the day feel much calmer. This is something I always encourage couples to think about when planning a micro wedding.
A beautiful location is wonderful. A beautiful location that is also easy for everyone? Even better.
What About Accessibility?
This is something I encourage every couple to consider, even if accessibility isn't the first thing that comes to mind when choosing a location.
Think about:
how far guests need to walk
whether the ground is flat
whether there are paved pathways
parking
toilets
seating
shade
temperature
noise levels
whether anyone needs a quieter place to step away
A location can be stunning and still not be the right choice for your particular group. Sometimes the grassy area beside the beach is a better choice than the sand. Sometimes the garden is better than the rainforest. Sometimes air conditioning wins.
For couples with older family members, young children, mobility considerations or sensory needs, I’m always happy to help think through the practicalities before you commit to a location.
What About Permits?
The requirements depend on the type of location you've chosen. Gold Coast beaches require a council permit for weddings, which is free. This requirement includes small ceremonies, and there are restrictions around guest numbers and structures. Parks, gardens and other council-managed spaces have different permit requirements and fees. Private venues will have their own booking arrangements.
The good news is that you don't have to navigate all of this on your own.

How Do You Choose the Right Location?
If you're feeling overwhelmed by the number of possibilities, start with three questions:
1. How do you want to feel?
Relaxed? Romantic? Adventurous? Private? Celebratory?
2. Who needs to be comfortable?
Just the two of you? Your parents? Children? Friends? Someone with accessibility or sensory needs?
3. What do you want to do afterwards?
Go for dinner?
Have a picnic?
Take photographs?
Head back to your accommodation?
Continue the celebration with your favourite people?
Once you know those answers, the right location often becomes much easier to find.
A Gold Coast Elopement Doesn't Have to Look Like Anyone Else's Wedding
This is probably my favourite thing about elopements and micro weddings.
You have permission to create the day around yourselves.
Maybe that's barefoot vows on the beach followed by breakfast.
Maybe it's a garden ceremony, photographs and a long lunch.
Maybe it's a chapel, cocktails and dinner.
Maybe it's just the two of you, your celebrant and two witnesses somewhere beautiful.
Or maybe it's 20 of your favourite people gathered together for a ceremony that feels intimate, personal and completely yours in an Air Bnb.
There isn't one “right” Gold Coast elopement location.
There is only the location that makes sense for your day.
